Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Week 12 Fantasy Football Preview

Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson will put his five-game double-digit fantasy points streak on the line against the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road in Week 12. In his last five games, Johnson has rushed 97 times for 652 yards (6.7 avg) and four touchdowns with three games of over 125 yards rushing.

He’s a must-start, even without a top-five fantasy matchup in Week 12.

Jake Locker (four) has the most starts this season of the two quarterbacks involved in this game, but Chad Henne (zero) has the most dynamic afternoon to date. Henne threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns against a pretty good Houston Texans defense in Week 11 despite not getting the start in that game.

Of the two, however, Locker is the better start in Week 12.

The Tennessee defense went into its bye week after a hot performance against rookie Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins, allowing him to throw for 217 yards and zero touchdowns while picking him off three times.

While the Titans were watching football on TV like us in Week 11, Jacksonville’s defense gave up 527 passing yards, five touchdowns and two picks to the Houston Texans’ Matt Schaub. That performance came 10 days after allowing the Indianapolis Colts’ Andrew Luck to rush for two touchdowns against them—something that Locker is capable of doing, as well.

Neither defense has been consistently dominant, making this a potentially high-scoring NFL matchup. Unfortunately, there is too much variability among the wide receiving corps of both squads to fully trust any pass-catchers participating in this contest.

Kenny Britt may get a few more looks this week and if he can hold up post-ACL injury (remember everybody isn’t Adrian Peterson), he may be a productive fantasy wideout down the stretch. That limits the fantasy value of those around him, however, making the Titans receivers a group to keep an eye on in Week 12—but not start.

Laurent Robinson has landed on the IR due to concussions suffered this season. We’ll wish him the best in his recovery and look forward to seeing his return to the field in 2013.

Just two receivers, Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts, caught three or more passes last week. Blackmon (seven catches, 236 yards, TD) had a breakout performance, but Shorts (three catches, 81 yards, TD) has been more consistent this season.

Henne completed less than half of his passes.

Because of that, Blackmon is another player who bears watching in Week 12 against a Titans defense that has given up 10 TDs to wideouts in its last eight games. He could completely disappear just as well as blow up against Tennessee. Shorts is more trustworthy.

Hot pickup Jalen Parmele’s 24 carries in Week 11 make him worth a look as a flex play against the Titans. He turned in an average of just 3.3 yards per carry—but if he’s going to see that much work this week, you could do worse as a desperation fantasy play.

Tennessee has allowed five total touchdowns to running backs in its last five games.
