Redskins vs Cowboys | Thanksgiving Game Preview

The NFL takes center stage on Thanksgiving and it gives us three tremendous games to coincide with the great food intake. The Thursday games have playoff implications for all the teams involved. The Houston Texans are well on their way to a playoff berth and can clinch a spot as early as this weekend. They are playing the struggling Lions in what could be a last ditch effort to turn around their season. The Cowboys host the Washington Redskins in a wonderful NFC East contest. The winner of this game will be sitting in a pretty good spot for a possible playoff berth. The late game has the New York Jets hosting the first place Patriots in an AFC East battle.
The Cowboys are riding a two game winning streak for the first time this year. They are looking to go on a run with a possible chance of winning the NFC East against the slumping Giants. Good thing they are looking forward and not behind them. If they were, the Cowboys would realize they have the Washington Redskins right on their heels. This is a big game for both organizations and their playoff hopes. It’s the first of two games this season, with the final game coming on the last Sunday of the year.

Washington is not out of the running for a playoff berth, but they need to make a push right now to make the postseason. They have winnable games down the stretch of the season and if they get the win on Thanksgiving Day, there’s a great chance that Washington will make the playoffs.

Both offenses will flourish on Thursday afternoon, so it will come down to which teams make the best defensive plays in the fourth quarter. Robert Griffin III will put pressure on the Cowboys pass rush with his run action plays. He’s quick and decisive with the ball in the pocket. Once Griffin breaks the pocket with his speed, he can take it to the house from anywhere.

Tony Romo and his receivers should have a field day against the Redskins secondary. That’s if the offensive line can protect him from the Redskins blitz package. Romo must not turn the ball over today against the Redskins. They can’t afford to give the Redskin’s offense a short field. Once again Romo will be the major factor on whether the Cowboys win or not. They probably won’t have a productive running game, so the passing game has to be very efficient.

The winner of this game will do the little things well. Both teams must avoid the cheap pass interference calls late in the game. Those penalties are game killers.
In the end, Washington will come away with a huge victory in the division. They’ll be in a tie for second with the Cowboys, behind the Giants.
